G.I. Joe Adventure Team

Here is a quick pin-up of a GI Joe Adventure Team member from the 70s. I did a drawing similar to this when I was a little kid (see below) and wanted to recreate it as an adult. I was a hugh Adventure Team fan back then. Still am I suppose. I still have a few figures, foot locker and even the big headquarters. I even bought Jack a few the replica Joes that have come out in the past several years but he's not old enough for them yet. I wish had more time to do drawings like this just for kicks, but duty calls you know.

Couple of New Sketch Cards

The Scarlet one was a commissioned piece. I love doing GI Joe cards. The Catwoman (Julie Newmar style) was for the March of Dimes Charity Auction. Steve took all the unsold cards, bundled them into one auction and added...

"You will get a brand new, hasn't been offered sketch card from a hot artist, also, as a surprise, for a total of 25 sketch cards!"

Hot artist, you heard him! Well, luke warm maybe. Anyway, I was a surprise artist at least.

Dallas Comic Con Aftermath

I had a great time at the Dallas Comic Con this past weekend. Ben and Mark really outdid themselves. I hope this con fills the void left by Wizard World Texas, I think it eventually could. The show was packed and I drew non-stop on Saturday, it was crazy, the busiest I've ever been. I believe the final tally was ... 21 Pre-Drawn Sketch Cards, 6 New Sketch Cards, 4 Pre-Drawn Color Sketches, 14 New Color Sketches, 8 New BW Sketches, 1 Shades TPB, 3 Prints.

Obviously, the Sketch Cards were a big hit since I sold almost half of them. I'm definitely gonna keep doing them, I think it's an affordable way to get a full color original piece of art. I'm on a GI Joe kick right now, so I've been doing Dr. Mindbender, Major Bludd, Firefly, Torch, Lady Jaye, Spirit, Eels, Tomax, Xamot, Cobra Commander (hooded) and more. I also need to replace my Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes and Baroness that sold at the show. I'll also be working on some Star Wars cards too.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by, I appreciate it. Here are some of the pieces I did during the show...

More Color Sketch Cards

Here are the last of the first batch of cards that I will be selling at conventions. I like the GI Adventure Teams guys, Emma Frost and Lobster Johnson a lot out of these. In just over a week I did 45 of them. Also, here's a shoot of all of them in their little plastic sleeves.

Color Sketch Cards

I've been knocking out a bunch of these trading card size color sketches to sell at shows. I'll have these at the Dallas Comic Con this weekend. They each come in their on hard plastic sleeve too. I really like Storm Shadow, Yoda, Black Canary, Slave Leia, Catwoman, Gi Joe Adventure Team Guy, Zatanna and Destro. And these are a lot of fun to do, I'm getting addicted to it. I should have more by the end of the week.

Scarlett

The companion piece to The Baroness...

The Baroness

I always dug her, so I thought it would be fun to draw her. And I was right. This is big 11' x 17" piece, I like how it turned out. I've decided to attempt to produce more ambitious "high end" drawings. Large format, filling the page, more detailed, yet still cartoony. I used to draw stuff that was a lot more detailed than what I do now, and I've had the urge lately to attempt to merge the two styles a bit and see what I can do. I'm also thinking about putting stuff up on eBay. Anyway, hope you like it.
