I got my first ever personalized blank sketch cards in the mail the other day. They were given to me by Versicolor Productions for working on their upcoming Bettie Page Private Collection. I designed them.

Yellow Jumpsuit

Here are some illustrations I recently did for a family who keep a website of all their adventures. It's called Yellow Jumpsuit, which I loved right away because I guessed correctly that it was a "Bottle Rocket" reference and it's one of my favorite movies. I also did a logo for them.

New Firefly Stuff in my Store

I added a new design to my online store. It's a Jayne Cobb (Firefly and Serenity) design similar to my previous Browncoat design. I have t-shirts and journals right now. If anyone wants to get it on a different product, just let me know. Adam "Jayne" Baldwin is coming to the Sci Fi Expo this month, it would be a super cool time for you to get something Jayne-y.

Design for the new Kidd Kraddick CD

Here's some pretty cool news. Well, pretty cool news around the Slayton headquarters. At least the dog thinks it’s cool. And he’s not easily impressed. I teased it in an earlier post…

The other thing is I've just completed a cd packaging design and illustration for a fairly big radio program. They're putting out a cd of comedy bits. Can't say who it's for yet, no I'm not kidding, but it should be out in December. So, more on that later.

The obvious clue was the word “kidding”. Or maybe it wasn’t obvious. Anyway, as the title of this post points out, I recently did the design for the new Kidd Kraddick Kinsey CD, “It’s My Wedding, WTH???” Of course the word “fairly” in the previous post is clearly sarcasm as Kidd Kraddick in the Morning is on in like 80 markets and I believe reaches a couple of million listeners. So, that’s big.

The CD is a collection of routines based on the real life fiancé of one of the on-air guys, J-Si. Her name is Kinsey, and Kidd plays her (via high-pitched auto tune) as a ditzy valley girl obsessed with shoes and all things materialistic.

They announced the release of the CD on the air today. Here is the audio of it. They talked about around a quarter to halfway in. Kidd Kraddick audio from 11.24.09 Hour 2

It’s available for purchase here:
iTunes | Amazon | Bandwear | emusic

The color on the online artwork at these stores looks a little off (too bright and neon) because I think it got uploaded as CMYK and not RGB. The image I posted above is what it really should be. And here is what the rest of the package looks like. BTW, "smrt" and "presents" are purposely spelled incorrectly and I didn't take the photo or design her logo (credit where credit is due and all).Anyway, it was fun project to work on. I hope to have the actual printed CD in my hands within the next couple of weeks. Thanks to Josh from the show for hiring me to design it, glad everyone liked it.
UPDATE: It was the #1 comedy album on iTunes at one point... From Kidd's site: "One day after its release on Thursday, Kinsey fans created a buying fervor that propelled the CD past three Dane Cook albums to secure itself to first place."

Small Update

Just a quick update for anyone who's interested. I've got a couple of pretty cool things, kinda big things, that I'll be announcing soon. If you run in the same comic book circles I do, you might know about one of them already, but I don't like to count my chickens before they hatch. So, I'll talk about it when it happens. The other thing is I've just completed a cd packaging design and illustration for a fairly big radio program. They're putting out a cd of comedy bits. Can't say who it's for yet, no I'm not kidding, but it should be out in December. So, more on that later. I've had a few people ask me about Spookytown. Admittedly, it's been on the back burner with all the freelance stuff I've been working on, but I have be doing a little something on it each day (which was my New Year's resolution) and here is a photo to prove it. Have fun out there.

Spookytown Ad and More

I took a Spopkytown pin-up and created a print ad for the book. It's supposed to appear in Samax's upcoming ghettoManga Quarterly. Samax, when's that coming out? Have I missed it already?A while back, I made the original mini comic available in a pdf format, for those who never read it and might be interested in it. Just click on the icon on the left to download it.

If you're interested, I have still have some sketchbooks for sale. It’s a 20-page mini-comic type book containing over 70 sketches, drawings and doodles that I’ve done will preparing to start the graphic novel. I printed up a limited edition of 100 books. Each is hand numbered and signed, I usually do a sketch on the back too. Just drop me a line if you'd like to buy one, they're just 5 bucks.

Here is a grab bag of images. I was organizing my files and came across all of these. I don't think I've posted any of them before. One is an unfinished Morgan Freeman image I was doing for fun. One is a book cover job. One was is a project I did for a couple of chefs who were creating a web site. One is a Doctor Who commission from 5 years ago. One is a mascot image for a lawn mowing service. See if you can guess which ones are which.

Firefly / Serenity Browncoat T-Shirts

I've recently gotten back into Firefly. I really hadn't watched it since I finished off the DVD set a couple of years back. I think I was too annoyed that it got cut short. Well, I dumped all the episodes on my iPod and realized how much I really dig this show. If you've never watched it, treat yourself. Anyway, I came up with this Browncoat design that I really like and decided to make some products out of it. Right now I have some t-shirts set up (mens and womens in different colors). I plan to more products and different Firefly designs. I might even make the entire cast out of this style. And I'm also gonna start drawing Firefly characters at cons, since I never really see artist doing that.

Visit my store for the Browncoat design.

New Dog Food Productions Web Site

I just redesigned the website for Dog Food Productions, a group of friends I make movies with. There are still a couple of bugs when viewing in Firefox and Camino, but I'll be working on fixing those. So, if you have some time to kill and like stupid stuff, stop by and see what's going on.

Ch-ch-ch-check it out!

DesignWiz.biz - My new design website

I just launched DesignWiz.biz, my new home for graphic design. I decided to split it off of CalSlayton.com to have a site totally dedicated to design and one just for illustration and personal use.
